Poker is without doubt the most played card game in the world. The online poker is no different and gives almost half of the income generated by the online gambling. There are a few versions of this game however each one is similar in most aspects. The basic strategy behind the game is that there are betting rounds and then there are card substitution rounds, and then the best hand wins.
The configuration of the game, in turn, is influenced by the amount of betting rounds.
Few rules remain the same in all the games like the terms and the hand rankings.
Poker Terms & Conditions
- Ante or a blind bet is a small bet made by all gamblers before they take a look at cards.
- Pot is where all wagers are collected for the one who wins.
- Call is when the player matches another player’s gamble.
- Check is when the player refuses to put a bet down, thus passing on to next player.
- Raise means one step up from a call, and happens when the player has made a bet beyond another player bet.
The most important terms and conditions for players
- Small Blind is a bet that is used to start betting in a pot. Players are chosen in rotation to make this bet typically in the value of half the least betting limit before a game starts.
- Big Blind is another wager for initiating betting in a pot before a game begins.The player will make this wager instantly after the small blind.
- Dealer Button is a small disk that is placed in front of the player, appointing them as the dealer. It is a title that does not place any duties on the player it still has an impact on the game so it is placed in front of each player turn by turn in each game.
- Community Cards are the upturned cards put in the middle of the poker table. These cards are not for any one player, but served at player’s discretion.
- Flop is the first round of dealing cards after the first hand.
- Turn is the second round of dealing of cards.
- River is the last and concluding round of dealing of cards.
- Street is a betting round designated by a number and refers to how many cards a player needs to form a hand at any given betting round.
Hand rankings are as follows
- Poker High Card is when no player has a valid poker hand, the highest ranking card hand wins. One Pair is two matching cards of rank.
- Two Pair is two sets in a five card poker hand.
- Three of a Kind is three same cards of rank.
- Straight means five cards in successive order of rank.
- Flush is five cards of the same suit, in no particular order.
- Full House is three similar cards of rank in combination with two same cards of rank.
- Straight Flush is five cards of the same suit in successive order of rank.
- Royal Flush is five highest ranked cards of the same suit.
